The X3R uses the same A12 Synthesis System found in the popular 01/W Series Music Workstations. This system enables the X3R to keep the signal entirely in the digital domain right up to the four individual outputs on the back panel. This ensures exceptional sound quality and flexibility. The X3R has a huge total of 340 Multisounds in its 6 megabytes of waveform memory, plus 164 drum sounds including a large assortment of snare and bass drum variations. Comprehensive editing tools let you shape these sounds, while two dynamic digital multi-effects systems with 47 different effects can be used for further sonic processing. The X3R's real-time editing function lets you conveniently make edits as you perform. And with its 32-note polyphony and four individual outputs, the X3R gives you all the power and versatility needed to create fully orchestrated musical masterpieces!

The X-Series instruments have been created using the same technology and voicing that made the 01/W, Ml and T-Series Music Workstations so popular. The A and B banks of RAM memory provide 200 Programs and 200 Combinations; a backup disk for all Programs / Combinations is also included. All sounds are synthesised from high-quality PCM data to give the X3R unmatched sound creation abilities. The SRC-512 RAM memory card can add an additional 200 Programs and 200 Combinations, totalling 400 Programs and 400 Combinations. The Edit mode of the X3R allows you to modify these programs with precise detail. For Multimedia applications and other General MIDI users, the ROM memory area has 128 GM Programs, 1 standard GM Drum Kit, and 7 original drum Programs. And since the X3R is also compatible with all the optional software available for the X2 and X3 including the USC and UPC Series memory cards you have access to an amazing variety of additional waveform data, Programs and Combinations.
